Chinese premier calls for enhanced efforts to fight SARS |

Premier Wen Jiabao has called for enhanced efforts from the Beijing municipal government to win the battle against the SARS virus that has been plaguing the capital. At an inspection tour of SARS prevention and treatment work in Beijing on Monday, Wen Jiabao warned of even tougher tasks ahead. He gave detailed directions on the next steps in the fight and also applauded the initial achievements that have already been made.
During the inspection tour, premier Wen Jiabao first paid a visit to Xiaotangshan Hospital, China's first SARS-designated hospital. The structure was built in just seven days.
He said the construction of the hospital is a display of the determination and resolution of the central government to fight hard against SARS. He stressed that with concerted efforts from all walks of life, he was confident of achieving victory over the epidemic.
After hearing a work report from the Beijing municipal government on SARS prevention and treatment, Wen Jiabao offered a positive assessment of the efforts already done. He also gave further detailed directions to press on in the fight against SARS.
He said that facing such a crisis, leaders at all levels should be confident of victory. He added that with the help of science and the masses, the disease can be totally defeated in the end.
Wen Jiabao further pointed out that enhanced leadership was key to winning the war. He called for both a strict and efficient working style from leaders at various levels.
Wen Jiabao also stressed the importance of positive efforts in the prevention and treatment of the epidemic. And he said not even one single SARS patient should be overlooked. He also stressed that the implementation of the government's directions should be strictly followed.
