160 newly confirmed SARS cases on Chinese mainland

    The Ministry of Health reports that in the 24-hour-period ending 10 am Monday, 160 new SARS cases have been confirmed on the Chinese mainland. Eighty-eight of these come from suspected cases. The cumulative number of SARS cases in the mainland has risen to 4,280.

    The Ministry says that, to date, a total of 1,433 SARS patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital, but 206 people have died.

    In Beijing, 98 new cases were confirmed, 58 of them from already suspected cases. Excepting Beijing, the top two provinces reporting newly confirmed cases are Shanxi with 21 cases and Guangdong with 12.
