Hong Kong holds SARS Symposium

    Medical professionals and scientists from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taipei and Hong Kong are attending a "Joint Symposium on Atypical Pneumonia" in Hong Kong. The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, and the University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Medicine are hosting the gathering.

    The opening ceremony took place at the University of Hong Kong "Faculty of Medicine" building on Sunday. The symposium will also include an expert panel discussion on the latest developments in SARS. Participants are calling for region-wide cooperation in fighting the disease.

    Also in Hong Kong, over 300,000 surgical masks destined for use by frontline medical workers were found to be faulty. The Hong Kong Hospital Authority has banned using the masks and the case is now being handled by the police.
