China's local government and medical units have taken a series of measures to prevent SARS from spreading into the country's rural regions.
Medical conditions in China's rural areas are comparatively poorer than those in the cities. To improve the rural medical system, health departments around the country have established a disease prevention and treatment network.
In the suburb of Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province, SARS monitoring stations have been set up in every village.
Local health official of Jiangxia district said: "Based on township hospitals, the monitoring stations can reach deep into the villages. In the event of a SARS case, it will be reported directly to the medical center of our district."
In Hebei province, SARS prevention and treatment necessities are being made available for anti-epidemic units in every county and district. The units have also been instructed to set up rooms for fever cases.
In Yan'an, Sha'anxi province, free sterilization chemicals are delivered to every household in the rural areas. Medical staff are conducting house to house sanitary work.
Around the country, rural medical workers have been trained to fight the epidemic.
