Three government ministers have talked to CCTV of the various measures taken by China's transport authorities to prevent and control the spread of SARS.

Railways Minister Liu Zhijun told CCTV that the Ministry of Railways has formed an epidemic prevention task force of more than 4,000 personnel to disinfect and monitor the railway systems nationwide. The massive disinfection campaign covers waiting lounges and ticket inspection halls in all major train stations, as well as every coach before departure and after arrival. Professional medical workers have been stationed on every train, and observation rooms have been established in all 44 major train terminals throughout the country.

Transport Minister Zhang Chunxian says that all buses and ships have been thoroughly disinfected by professional sterilization companies. All passengers are now required to complete health registration before boarding long-distance coaches and ships. Drivers and conductors are receiving training so that suspected SARS cases can be detected early and preliminary measures can be taken according to required procedures.

Yang Yuanyuan, Head of the General Administration of Civil Aviation, told reporters that ventilators in planes now ensure a 100 percent replacement of fresh air from outside about every 3 minutes. The Administration has also introduced infrared equipment in some airports to take the body temperature of passengers.
