The Chinese central government has decided to circumvent the existing administrative system and establish a Beijing-based joint SARS prevention and control task force. It's part of the latest efforts to check the spread of the deadly virus.
Beijing Municipal Party Secretary, Liu Qi, says the government is taking tougher measures to prevent SARS by maintaining a transparent information network as well as a strict isolation and prevention system.
Liu has underlined the importance of early discovery, timely reports, strict quarantine and effective treatment in the campaign.
Liu also reiterated the government's commitment to safeguard its people's health and welfare.
