China's top prosecutor's department, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, has ordered a timely crackdown on workplace crimes by civil servants in relation to the SARS epidemic.
The top prosecutor's agency issued a directive this week, ordering local affiliates to take timely legal action against those suspected of dereliction of duty in SARS prevention.
The prosecutor's agency is also calling for a crackdown on people fabricating SARS information and spreading rumors, threatening legal action against the profiteers of panic.
Under the directive, those involved in stockpiling products, monopolizing markets, introducing price hikes and producing and dumping fake and shoddy goods will face severe penalties.
