Beyond Beijing, measures have been tightened across China at all levels to control the spread of SARS as more cases are reported in more areas. The Ministry of Railways is working with the Ministry of Communications to guarantee the transport of SARS prevention medicines within 24 hours.

A nationwide campaign against SARS is continuing. In Shenzhen, 60 infra-red screening machines have been installed at harbors and airports to check the temperature of passengers. The machine can read a person's temperature in 1 second.

In Jiangxi Province and Tianjin municipality, students must take their temperatures every morning before entering classrooms. In many provinces, schools are teaching students about effective prevention and treatment of the disease. Education departments in east China's Zhejiang Province and its capital city of Hangzhou have initiated emergency prevention plans at all schools. Every school and kindergarten in Hangzhou has established its own SARS prevention and control team, responsible for disinfecting campuses and classrooms, supplying soap and increasing ventilation in classrooms.

The Ministry of Communications has issued a notice to all of its provincial branches to provide emergency transport for potential SARS patients. The ministry is working with the Ministry of Railways and the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China to guarantee the transport of SARS prevention medicine within 24 hours.

The Ministry of Railways has designated three inspection groups to go to nine areas nationwide to check on the latest information and supervise the treatment of the disease. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shengyang are on that list. The ministry has also required thorough and comprehensive disinfections of every train compartment. Some trains have a doctor available at all times. Once SARS cases are reported, people must be promptly quarantined and disinfected to prevent the spread of the virus.
