Latest figures on the SARS virus put the number of victims in the Chinese mainland at 2,305 by eight o'clock Tuesday evening. The figures come from the Ministry of Health.
Altogether 106 SARS patients have died, while 1,231 others have been discharged from hospital upon recovery. In Beijing, the total number of SARS cases reached 693. Fifty－five were discharged from hospital upon recovery, while 35 others died. In the 24 hours ending 8 pm, April 22, Beijing reported 105 new SARS cases and seven deaths. In Guangdong Province, 14 new cases were reported and nine more SARS patients recovered, with one death reported. In Shanxi Province, 16 new cases were reported.
