Beijing residents snap up SARS medicine, literature |

Residents in Beijing are taking a range of measures to fight the killer virus. They are snapping up in large amounts medicines believed to help prevent SARS and are flocking to book stores to get as much information as possible about how to avoid contracting the virus.
At present, various types of medicine for preventing SARS are being sold in Beijing. The city's residents are flocking to drugstores to get the medicines, mostly traditional Chinese herbs and remedies. In order to cope with the demand of people, most drug stores have ceased bulk sales and have set a maximum purchase total of 12 items per customer.
Meanwhile in most bookstores in Beijing, people are continuing to buy books on SARS prevention and possible cures.
Bookstore assistant said: "More than 4,000 books of this type have been sold since April the 10th. Besides regular retail customers, we are also getting bulk orders."
Bookstore customer said: "I am buying a book to get some knowledge on how to prevent SARS. " According to the bookstore assistant, books on SARS are getting more and more popular in Beijing.
