China's latest SARS figures

    China's State Council has sent a second batch of inspection groups to SARS-hit areas. The teams are led by officials from central government organs and made up of medical experts. Premier Wen Jiabao stressed that the inspection groups should promote the significance of SARS prevention, investigate the spread of the epidemic as well as make a thorough check on prevention and control measures.

    China has so far had 2,001 confirmed cases of SARS of which 1,201 have recovered and 92 died. Beijing has had 482 cases, 43 of these have recovered and 25 have died. In the past three days, the number of SARS cases in Beijing has increased as some of those previously suspected have been confirmed as SARS. According to the World Health Organization, by Sunday the world had 4,554 known or suspected cases with 204 deaths.
