The Ministry of Education has announced that all local education bureaus should work closely with local colleges and universities to set up a "zero report system" . It is part of moves to prevent SARS from spreading on Chinese campuses.

Starting Saturday, the Ministry of Education has asked local education bureaus to submit a daily status report before 3:00 pm. Local disease prevention and control facilities are also required to report on time on their diagnosis, suspected cases and any information related to SARS.

The Ministry is also requiring that school clinics set aside a certain amount of wards as provisional emergency isolation wards. Colleges and universities should also try alternatives to suspending classes, such as delivering lectures through Internet, telephone consultations and take-home assignments. All campus tours have been suspended.
