The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government is organizing a series of clean-up operations throughout the city this weekend to combat the spread of SARS.
The disease has caused worry and concern to the community for over a month. The campaign named “Territory-Wide Cleansing Day” is aimed at involving the whole community and all residents to clean up a great variety of venues from public housing to social and educational institutions and commercial premises.
Secretary for Home Affairs Patrick Ho says the HK SAR government hopes the cleaning-up exercise can be sustained, and that it will turn into an action-oriented campaign which calls upon every Hong Kong citizen to join together to fight the disease.
