The Beijing municipal government has launched a package of control measures to speed up the prevention and treatment of the SARS epidemic.
There is now an English hotline on SARS for expatriates in Beijing. Medical prevention and monitoring has been strengthened in areas where there are many foreigners.
Since the disease reached the city, the municipal government set up a close monitoring system. It requires medical institutes at all levels to report new cases as soon as possible.
A research team of over 2,500 experts has been assembled to collect all relevant information and carry out quarantine measures when necessary. Hospitals in the city have intensified training and protection of the medical staff, and sterilization measures are being taken in public places.
