 President Hu Jintao has said the central government will do whatever it takes to assist Hong Kong in fighting the SARS epidemic.
The Chinese president made the pledge during a meeting with Hong Kong's Chief Executive Tung Chee－hwa in the southern city of Shenzhen on Saturday. Tung Chee－hua briefed Hu Jintao on the Hong Kong region's economy as well as on efforts and progress in containing the SARS epidemic.
The Chinese president said he hopes the Hong Kong government will mobilize more resources to fight the disease. Hu Jintao has stressed the importance of sharing expertise and cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland on SARS.
