A representative from the World Health Organization (WHO) arrived in Macao on Saturday morning for a four-day inspection tour. He's in the Special Administrative Region to examine the precautionary measures Macao has taken to prevent the SARS outbreak.
Kouichi Morita is the first WHO expert to visit Macao since the disease broke out in neighboring regions. Another WHO communicable disease control expert will pay a visit to Macao soon. No case of SARS infection has been found in Macao so far. During the inspection tour, Morita will visit SARS isolation care units, emergency rooms, intensive care units in hospitals as well as the Macao Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Macao, which welcomes over ten million tourists annually, is currently on a high alert for the disease. A SARS task force has been set up to coordinate all necessary preventive measures.
