| Guangzhou experts: corona virus associated with SARS |

Medical experts in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province, believe they have made an important discovery towards finding the cause of the SARS virus. But they say prevention remains the best course of action.
Medical experts working on the SARS outbreak in Guangzhou believe a novel corona virus has an etiological role in the disease.
In an attempt to identify potential pathogens, medical workers have collected clinical specimens from patients and tested them, using virus isolation techniques, electron－microscopical and molecular and serologic assays.
By identifying the corona virus, the experts have found a possible window at least for effective prevention, if not a cure, for SARS.
Zhong Nanshan, director of Office of Guangzhou Atypical Pneumonia Task Force said:
"First and foremost, if the same virus occurs in a repeated patten, we can use vaccine injection as a preventive method. Secondly, we should start to look at the antiviral medicines and choose the most effective ones. In the meantime people should avoid close contact with someone or the tainted belongings of someone already affected."
The corona virus was discovered after weeks of joint research with Hong Kong University.
