Non-Communist parties in China are playing an important role in political consultation, democratic supervision and participation in state affairs. These remarks were made at a joint press conference by eight non-Communist parties at the ongoing session of China's top consultative body, the CPPCC, in Beijing.
The eight people are leading members of eight non-communist parties in China. While they may hold important positions themselves in the government, some people question the extent of their true influence on national policies and with the ruling party. And these leaders give their answers.
"As Vice-President of the Supreme People's Court, I participated in every important judicial meeting. I feel I can fully express my views on assignments and my better suggestions and ideas are almost always adopted. I have never felt that I'm not making a difference," said Wan Exiang, chairman of Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang.
Unlike the multi-party system of some western countries, Non-communist parties are under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party. All of them cooperate to form one of the distinct characteristics within China's political system. All year round, representatives from the non-communist parties actively participate in the annual sessions of the CPPCC and NPC. Together, they discuss the government's work report as they contribute proposals and add criticism.
The non-communist party members firmly believe that their choice of being led by the Communist Party is the right choice.
"Over one-fifth of the world's population have shaken off poverty and realized well-off society on average. China has never before enjoyed such attention and respect from the international community. History has shown that the Communist Party of China has the capacity to keep complicated situations under control. No political force can replace such a party because of its strong ruling capacity. Chinese people, including members of the non-communist parties, feel trust and positive expectations," said Zhang Meiying, vice chairwoman of China Democratic League.
They also told the media that more and more non-communist members are in leadership positions within government and they continue to play increasingly important roles within the country's economic, social and political life.
Co-operation between the ruling party and various other groups date back to the days when they fought shoulder by shoulder during the founding of today's China. This relationship has been consolidated over the years and now a new era of political restructuring is underway. This gives hope that the system will be further strengthened for years to come.
