On December 3, China's eastern metropolis of Shanghai succeeded in its bid to host the 2010 World Expo, the first ever to be held in a developing country. Preliminary preparation is under way for the construction of the exposition halls and complementary facilities.
The main hall of the exposition is located on Zhoujiazui street in Pudong district, Shanghai's high-tech economic development zone. Altogether an area of four square kilometers will be used for the Expo site, currently home to 25,000 residents in about 8,500 households. The residents will move to a new residential area where the house price is 25 percent cheaper than the Shanghai average.
