 Shanghai Mayor Chen Liangyu says Shanghai will meet the rare opportunity to host the 2010 World Expo by redoubling its preparation efforts.
He said the city aims to present all participating countries with excellent facilities and services. The mayor added that the city expects broad participation in the Shanghai event, bringing together the best of the world's cultures. The mayor also wants to maximize opportunities for understanding, friendship and cooperation.
Chen told reporters that the vote marked a day when the BIE not only chose Shanghai, but also China and a developing country as well for the first time in the organization's history.
Meanwhile, the president of the BIE, Gilles Noghes, voiced his confidence in Shanghai's hosting of a successful "2010 World Exposition" while announcing that Shanghai had won its bid.
