In Taiwan, shopping districts across the island are returning to their normal hustle and bustle. This follows the World Health Organization's decision to remove Taiwan from its list of SARS affected areas.
Crowds of people poured onto the streets to watch an overnight concert on Penghu Island Saturday night. People in many cities packed into commercial centers to catch up on their shopping.
The local authority has invested 300 million Taiwan new dollars, or nearly nine million US dollars, in a drive to boost tourism and commerce in the region.
A tour group from Hong Kong who reached Taiwan on Saturday became the first group of visitors to the island after it was removed from the WHO list of SARS affected areas.
