Beijing's top SARS hospital, Xiaotangshan, is starting to wind down operations after 50 intense days of fighting the SARS virus.
With all patients now discharged, staff at the specially designated hospital in northeast suburb of Beijing are starting to return to their original places of work. So far, 990 of the hospital's 1,400 medical workers have been re-deployed. The rest of the staff will gradually move over the next few weeks.
The number of patients still hospitalized with SARS in the city is now less than a hundred. The hospital, which was built in a week during the height of the city's SARS epidemic in late April, has accomplished its main mission.
