Beijing's National Library is back open to the public. Avid readers lined up early this morning to be the first through the doors.
Facing enthusiastic readers, librarians had to remind patrons to be patient and have their body temperature taken. Every reader has to register at the entrance so that tabs are kept on the number of people in the building.
The nighttime service has been cancelled to give staff enough time to disinfect the library.
Strict sterilization measures apply to books in circulation. Each returned book will be cleaned with ozone for at least 45 minutes. Rare books and foreign language reference volumes will be quarantined for three days after being returned. And private study rooms and reading room for the handicapped remain closed.
