New York's overseas Chinese community makes SARS donation

    With many parts of China experiencing difficult times in the fight against SARS, overseas Chinese in New York have lent a morale-boosting hand by donating goods and cash for their motherland.

    At a donation ceremony held in New York on Saturday, the chairman of New York's Overseas Chinese Union, Liang Guanjun said the overseas Chinese network in the city had donated over 160,000 dollars in cash and 80,000 face masks.

    The chairman of New York's Chinese Commercial Association, Zhang Liyong, said his association had donated 20,000 dollars and was ready to provide transportation services free of charge.

    Overseas Chinese scholars and students donated 20,000 dollars and tens of thousands of face masks. China's General Consulate in New York, Zhang Hongxi expressed gratitude to the city's overseas Chinese community at the ceremony.
