China passes SARS peak stage |

Chinese Vice Minister of Health Ma Xiaowei has told the Assembly that China has passed the peak stage of SARS.
Speaking on Tuesday, Ma Xiaowei identified the peak stage in south China's Guangdong province as January. He said the province has seen a significant decrease in new cases since then. The peak stage was from the middle of April to the first 10 days of May in areas including the capital city Beijing and Shanxi province, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hebei province and Tianjin Municipality.
Ma Xiaowei said 43 percent of China's SARS patients have been discharged from hospital. He also briefed the assembly on the Chinese government's measures to combat SARS, including isolation and treatment, including SARS on the legal list of infectious diseases, cooperating with international community, and establishing a special fund.
