| Chinese Health Ministry reports 12 new SARS cases |

There were 12 new severe acute respiratory syndrome （SARS） cases and five new deaths between 10:00 a.m. May 18 and 10:00 a.m. May 19 on the Chinese mainland, while in Beijing, seven new cases and three deaths were reported, the Ministry of Health reported Monday afternoon.
The cumulative SARS cases rose to 5,236； the number of SARS patients discharged from hospitals and the death toll reached 2,148 and 289, respectively, the ministry said in a daily report.
Beijing reported seven new SARS cases and three deaths from 10:00 a.m. May 18 to 10:00 a.m. May 19, the Ministry of Health said.
