Motorola donates US$1.43 million for China's anti-SARS efforts |

Motorola President Mike Zafirovski, has donated 11.8 million yuan, or 1.43 million US dollars in telecoms equipment and cash to China, on behalf of Motorola, to support its nation-wide fight against SARS.
Zafirovski chose World Telecommunications Day to visit China. He is the first head of a big-name multinational company to arrive in Beijing since the outbreak of SARS.
During his one-day stay, he is signing a cooperation memorandum launching a research and development branch in Beijing, with an investment of 90 million US dollars. Zafirovski said Motorola is sticking to its win-win strategy in China and will increase cooperation with its Chinese clients in the risk management of telecommunications systems.
Commenting on the effective anti-SARS measures taken by the Chinese government, Zafirovski said he is delighted to see the working staff are quite safe. He expressed his belief that the Chinese government will reduce the SARS impact to the minimum within a short time.
He said his confidence is based on long-term and close cooperation between his company and China. The Motorola donation will be used in the anti-SARS campaigns in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangdong.
Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan also met with the president of Motorola, saying that economic development and the fight against SARS are equally important for the Chinese government. He said that China welcomes multi-nationals like Motorola to increase investment and to play an active part in China's construction of its IT systems.
