Singapore is bracing for a renewed outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) following the isolation of two dozen mental health patients thought to have contracted the disease. Three nurses are also under observation for the illness.
SARS has already killed 28 people in the city state but no new cases of the disease had surfaced in more than two weeks. That was until 24 patients and several nurses were struck by a fever earlier this week at the Institute of Mental Health.
Health officials are trying to track down the source of the suspected infections. Nearly 90 percent of Singapore's victims have caught the illness while either visiting or working in hospitals.
