Beijing education authorities say colleges and universities in the city are now free to arrange the return of students to campus. But the Beijing Municipal Education Commission has set out some conditions for the incoming students.
The commission says universities with relatively few students off-campus can now allow them to return in a controlled manner. This does not apply to institutions where a large part of the student body has left.
Students can return only after they receive official word from university authorities. They should also have the necessary documents ready when they get back. These include certificates issued by local disease control authorities stating there is no SARS epidemic locally or the returnee has not had any contact with confirmed or suspected SARS patients. The returnees also have to present a two-week record of body temperatures signed by their parents.
Students who fail to present these documents should delay their return. And those who have contracted SARS or are suspected of contracting disease should receive isolated treatment locally.
