Measures have been tightened in railway areas in China to control the spread of SARS as more cases are reported in more areas. The Ministry of Railways is strengthening its effort to guarantee the transport of SARS prevention medicines within 24 hours.
Up to Saturday, nearly 220,000 trains have received a thorough and comprehensive disinfection. The ministry also designated over 16,000 inspectors to check on the cleaning and on supervision of the disease.
Once SARS cases are reported, people must be promptly quarantined and disinfected to prevent it from spreading. The railway authorities have set up more than 300 observation rooms in railway stations nationwide. They have found and dealt with about 600 suspected SARS cases. Among them, 7 were confirmed and received proper treatment.
