In a move to curb the spread of the SARS epidemic across boundaries, China's Ministry of Health and State Bureau of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine have released a joint statement to tighten health check-up at the nation's major entry ports.
The statement requires the immediate report of any suspicious cases of SARS to relevant quarantine departments by anyone who enters China. Quarantine departments at all entry ports will promptly provide the appropriate medical treatment to any people suffering from SARS-like symptoms.
The statement also requires strict quarantine and sterilization measures in the interiors of shuttle buses, trains, ships and planes traveling across boundaries. Anyone in the vehicles, either crewmembers or passengers, exhibiting suspicious symptoms will be transferred to registered hospitals for further diagnosis.
