Premier Zhu Rongji's work report received a warm response from ordinary Chinese people. They all found answers to the questions that concern them most in their daily lives.

Yang Yansui, a scholar of Tsinghua University on social welfare and employment, watched Premier Zhu Rongji's report from home. She was very happy to see the issues she cares most about addressed in the report.

"I think the following two points in the report are very important. One is to develop a standard labor force market. That means the employer should sign contracts with employees and provide social welfare, pensions, medical and unemployment insurances. This is very close to ordinary people's concerns. The second point is to develop more job opportunities of various forms. That is crucial to ease the current pressure of unemployment in China," the professor said.

In the streets, many people expressed their own feelings about the report.

"I paid the greatest attention to the part about economic growth. China is an agricultural country. If the policies concerning farmers are carried out well, all problems will be solved easily," one Beijing resident said.

"I have been a taxi driver for more than ten years. What interests me most is the policy about social welfare and housing," a taxi driver said.

An owner of newsstand said, "Most papers have gone all out covering the on-going national congress and political consultative conference. Many readers care about the news."

The First Session of the 10th National People's Congress has only just begun. People hope the issues they care about most can be addressed satisfactorily through the efforts of deputies.
