Beijing reopened its high schools Thursday for third-year senior students after a mandatory month-long shutdown to stem the spread of SARS, reported Friday's China Daily.
Students in rural Beijing will go back to class next Monday. In densely populated districts, only third-year junior high school students who are due to take senior high school entrance exams between July 8 and 10 will go back to school on June 9.
Other grades of students in urban areas will stay home until July 14. The summer holidays have been postponed from July 11 to July 25, according to the national capital's education authorities.
Students must undergo temperature check at school gates and then wash their hands in newly installed basins. Despite the fuss, students said they were glad to be back, according to the English-language paper.
