Hong Kong announced Saturday that the children's play rooms for public would reopen on Monday as the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) new cases per a day have been under single digit for several days.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong said that all the 20 play rooms will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before reopening on Monday. Ventilation will be improved and air conditioning systems will be thoroughly cleaned and checked.
The children's play rooms have been closed since March 28 as a preventive measure against SARS.
"We think that the outbreak has come under control in Hong Kong and that soon there will be no new cases," World Health Organization (WHO)'s head of communicable diseases, David Heymann, told Hong Kong Cable Television from Geneva in remarks broadcast on Saturday.
Four new patients with SARS, and five more deaths were confirmed, according to a statement jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong on Saturday.
"All equipment and installations will be cleaned and disinfected at least four times a day during opening hours, and again during breaks and after closure," said a spokesman for the department.
"Notices will be posted at venues to remind people suffering from respiratory tract infections not to enter the children's playrooms. Venue staff will closely monitor the use of the play rooms and advise those found with symptoms of respiratory disease to leave and seek medical attention," said the spokesman.
