Shanghai receives 1.56 million US dollars worth of anti-SARS donations

    The Suntory (China) Holding Co., Ltd., a Japanese-financed firm, donated 1 million yuan (120,000 US dollars) Friday for the battle against severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Shanghai.

    The Suntory donation brought total donations received in Shanghai to more than 13 million yuan (1.56 million dollars), according to the Shanghai Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau.

    As of Thursday, the local civil affairs and health bureaus, the local Red Cross Society and charity foundation, the only four units authorized to receive anti-SARS donations, had received 12.44 million yuan worth of donations (1.49 million dollars), including 3.62 million yuan (439,000 dollars) worth of liquid disinfectants, medicines and nutrition and health care products.
