| Measures stepped up against SARS: Chief Executive |

Noting Hong Kong has been working hard to contain the spread of SARS, Chief Executive Tung Chee－hwa said Monday the fight is being stepped up and the situation in the city has gradually stabilized in Hong Kong.
Tung said at a news briefing that there are now five priorities against the killer virus: taking steps to get down the number of affected frontline medical worker； enforcing the health check cross the borders； continuing the promotion of individual and environmental hygiene； reinforcing home isolation for those affected families, and beefing up contact tracing of those people who have been affected.
Tung said that SARS has brought great challenges to Hong Kong economically and socially.
Economists commonly believe SARS has gravely affected Hong Kong's major economic sectors. Government officials also acknowledged the previous forecast of 3 percent growth is not attainable because of the economic slowdown.
Meanwhile, Tung said after hard work of several weeks, the killer virus and treatment protocol have been gradually grasped, and reiteration may occur in the near future, while the current medical figures show conditions have stabilized.
According to the medical authority, an additional 46 patients have recovered Sunday, doubling the figure of patients admitted to the hospitals on the same day. Up to now, a total of 1,380 were affected in Hong Kong and 409 patients have recovered.
Tung said all the measures being taken are necessary and the work of contact tracing of patients are especially important for it's a must to contain the spread of SARS effectively.
"I think we are making good progress," he added.
