Chinese mainland records 1807 SARS cases

    By April 18, a total of 1,807 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) cases had been reported on the Chinese mainland, according to a press release in Beijing Sunday afternoon.

    Of the total, 1,304 cases are found in Guangdong, 339 cases in Beijing, 108 in Shanxi, 25 in Inner Mongolia, 12 in Guangxi, six in Hunan, five in Sichuan,three in Fujian, two in Shanghai, two in Henan and one in Ningxia.

    Of the total, 79 patients, or 4.3 percent, had died, while 1,165 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

    Beijing reports a total of 339 confirmed cases and 402 suspected cases, the Information Office of the State Council said. And of the total, 18 patients died. Five foreigners were diagnosed to have SARS and another four were suspected of the disease.
