The Chinese government has clearly stated that if China hosts the 2010 World Expo, it will provide about 100 million US dollars in funding to aid developing countries with transport and exhibition hall costs.
Miguel Velloso, Argentina's consul general to Shanghai, thinks that this commitment by China will draw more developing countries to participate in the World Expo, making it a significant event worldwide.
The diplomats also expressed their surprise at China's development. China was an important and vigorous market with great potential, incomparable advantages for hosting the 2010 World Expo, they said.
Velloso also praised Shanghai: "Shanghai is the best candidate for the 2010 World Exposition, not just because of its speedy social, cultural and economic development, but because it also has a cosmopolitan atmosphere while sustaining China's traditional culture."
Shanghai had already showed its hospitality in hosting a series of international conferences, and he predicated that more countries were keen to visit the "Pearl of the Orient."
