Chinese are putting their money where their mouth is. A recent survey by a Beijing-based research company shows English training is a big draw this summer.
In Beijing, the number of people taking English courses at their own expense has reached 500,000 every year, with a profit of nearly 250 million US dollars. Age and economic status span a wide range. The majority are people who want to study abroad and those preparing to take the national post-graduate examination.
More and more Chinese say they believe that English is important for career development, since China has entered the World Trade Organization.
