Chinese art is more valuable than ever, it's official. Master-pieces by renowned Chinese artists such as Xu Beihong went under the hammer at Saturday's "Chinese Oil Painting and Sculpture" auction in Beijing. The auction raised a total of 19.2 million RMB, around 8.7 million US dollars, a record for a Chinese art auction.
The special auction included selected works of Xu Beihong, Wu Zuoren, Gao Xiaohua and other top notch artists. "Catching the Train," a colossal oil painting by Gao Xiaohua went for 437,000 US dollars, while the giant "Day Lilly In the Battle Field" by Wu Zuoren hit the 424,000 US dollar mark, breaking the artists own record.
Master Xu Beihong's sketches also closed at a price far higher than had been estimated.
