Chinese car racers have made their debut in the Formula Volkswagen Championship 2003. The two racers, Chen Shaoquan and Jiang Tengyi are the first Chinese to participate in an internationally renowned car racing.
Chen and Jiang represent China's two largest joint-venture automakers, Shanghai-Volkswagen and Changchun-Volkswagen. With an outstanding record in local car races, the two Chinese will, for the first time, compete in a world-class race with scores of elite drivers from Europe, America and the Oceania.
Chen said, "We don't have much practice in formula races. But I believe we Chinese are not far behind international racers."
Chen and Jiang currently rank the 10th and 16th in the lineup. The Volkswagen Championship involves four courses and 14 rounds. It is held each year in Germany and Austria.
