Chinese audiences can now see some of the world's best films in a top quality venue after a new theater complex opened in Shanghai. Warner Bros. Theaters International launched the joint venture in China's biggest city on Saturday.
Located downtown, the complex has nine halls and seats some 14,000 patrons. The Hollywood blockbuster, Matrix Reloaded, launched viewers into the new era for Warner Bros. in China.
Insiders said the Shanghai Paradise Warner Cinema City Co. joint venture was likely only the beginning of the American multinational's investment in China. Warner Bros. owns 49 percent of the joint venture, while Shanghai Film Group Corp, the city's biggest film company holding the controlling share.
Warner officials say the group is interested in expanding distribution and screening in China, as well as beefing up in investment in film production on the mainland.
