| Chinese universities adopt new procedure in enrolling students |

Chinese universities and colleges have begun experimenting with a new procedure which gives them some leeway in recruiting students.
The new procedure allows over a hundred educational institutions to admit students whose scores fail to reach the academic thresholds set by them, but who possess talents in one or more special areas.
The new procedure is a supplement to the current system of recruiting students, requiring students to meet existing academic requirements.
According to the Ministry of Education, the percentage of such flexible enrollments shall be no more than five percent of the total enrollments by a university.
