In response to the outbreak of SARS, Beijing has set up a rapid response medical team and a monitoring system to prevent the epidemic from spreading in the capital.

The Beijing municipal government has taken comprehensive measures to keep the capital safe from SARS, including regular sterilization in public places and facilities, especially in railway stations, airports and taxies.

Since March, a hot line has been set up at the Beijing Disease Prevention Center to give round-the-clock medical advice on the epidemic. The Beijing Emergency Center has also organized investigating groups to keep close watch on the appearance of SARS cases.

Once they get news of a new patient, they can reach him within half an hour by trailing the person contacting them. The Beijing Virus Research Lab has also picked up its pace for research work, and has found an effective Chinese medicine prescription to deal with SARS.
