Home | China | World | Business Shandong to Be China's Top Green Farm Goods Producer THU, FEB 21, 2002     Shandong Province, in east China, recently announced it plans to build up the largest green farm goods production base in the country during the 10th Five-Year Plan period (2001-2005). The production base, which is expected to cover 2 million ha., will be mainly used to grow vegetables, fruits, grain, edible fungus and aquatic products. By 2005, Shandong's yearly outputs of green food and pollution-free farm products will reach 4 million tons and 65 million tons, respectively. Meanwhile, its annual exports of green food are expected to top two billion U.S. dollars-worth, accounting for 30 percent of its total exports of farm goods. Currently, the province is establishing a monitoring network to ensure the quality of green farm products.
