R: Hi. Welcome to "Let's Talk". We're back in Dr. Li's beautiful dental clinic talking about problems and treatment of our teeth. Hi Dr. Li thanks to having us here.
L: Very good.
R: Here I'm in the patient's chair. So how do you start what are the usual problems that you see and you will be treating right here in your clinic?
L: Well if patients come in with pain of course I would take a x-ray and examine them. If their tooth in pain really really painful I can safe the tooth by doing a recanal, which is taken the nerve out, or I can pull the tooth out as instruction. But both procedures you shouldn't feel it. Because I would have to give you injection to numb you up.
R: All right. So you put to shot in and you feel nothing.
L: That's right. That' when you come in with the toothache. But a normal check up then I even don't do that. When I found some small cavities I can fill it with simple fillings. For children if I see potential smaller to become a cavity I can use sealant to seal the tooth so they won't get a cavity.
R: Oh, yes and you do that with my kids. I know you're showing me this all the teeth you put like a covering on so that if they eat sugar it won't get in.
L: And the procedure doesn't hurt at all.
R: No not at all. I never had any pain when I came. And I'm sure I had some fillings nothing too bad I hope I don't have big problems in the future.
L: That's why it very important to come back and visit your dentist regularly.
R: Right, every six-month. And the cleaning are nice because your mouth taste very clean afterwards feels good.
L: And the check up appointment we do clean your teeth and make sure that everything is ok.
R: So those are the common problems, small holes called cavities that you fill, and children's special issues like protecting their teeth as they grow. And what other problems would you say. Are there any special comments to China? I know that people chew a lot of seeds. Do you see problems there?
L: Yes if they chew the seeds for long period of time they tend to have a notch on their inside jaw edge. Those are very difficult to repair.
R: You could repair them.
L: We could repair. If they got larger broken off notch we can even prepare a crown, a covering, a cap, that cover the whole tooth.
R: And that's also should not be painful.
L: No, not at all.
R: As long as you use the pain killer medicine. So now let's see in the chair now, these are all your tools right, and the special light, and here is a little sink. I feel like I shouldn't touch anything. Would you say that there is new equipment like these all over China now?
L: Yes there are many clinics in Beijing and through out China had equipment as good as we have here.
R: And it is similar to California.
L: That's right.
R: And are there training clinics for dentists here in China to learn new techniques.
L: Yes, and I welcome dentists to visit my dental clinic here. We have many visitors every day.
R: Oh, really? So you have dentists to come to see you. Oh, that's terrific. Because I know that it's improving all the time in China. So what are some of the new things in China? This is new, isn't this?
L: Yes.
R: And you've been doing my...you and your associate doctor Penny have been helping my daughter straighten her teeth.
L: We can treat children who have cock teeth and make them strait. But this process takes long time. Takes about two years.
R: But it's wonderful. When you take all that off the teeth are straight. And they stay straight. So it's a little painful those during the two years. But a little bit, right?
L: Only a little bit uncomfortable. I won't say painful.
R: Just uncomfortable. And you must be very careful to keep it clean. But it's wonderful to have straight teeth at the end. What about coffee and tea stains. I love to drink coffee and tea.
L: Yes you need to come in and we can move those stain and polish. But the newest thing is bleaching or whitening your teeth. Right now we do put chemical in your teeth that is not harmful to your teeth and make it white and beautiful. We call it bright smile.
R: Bright smile. Oh, it's a great name. So then you have whiter teeth like you have when you're younger before you drunk tea.
L: That's right.
R: That's great. And all these treatments are available here in China too.
L: That's right. And remember it's not painful.
R: Right.
L: And it's comfortable.
R: Oh, that's wonderful because you know the expression, "You never fully addressed without smile."
L: Very good.
R: Well I've learned a lot today visiting the dental clinic. And I going to take good care of my teeth. Thanks you to having us today, I appreciate it Dr. Li. Can you give us some advice to our viewers?
L: You welcome. Take good care of your teeth so your teeth will take good care of you. Brush your teeth everyday and have a good diet cut down the sugar, and visit your dentist regularly.

牙科診室的故事

R：你們好今天我們再次來到李醫生的牙科診所來聊聊常見的牙病及其療法。您好，李醫生非常感謝您再次與我們合作。
L：我很榮幸！
R：現在我就坐在病人躺的椅子上在診所裏，您一般會遇到什麼樣的病人？您會怎麼處理呢？
L：如果病人感到牙疼，我會先做一些諸如X光等的例行檢查。如果牙疼得很厲害，我就會進行牙的修補。但這並不那麼容易。或者，我就把壞死的牙拔除，不過你完全不必害怕，因為在此之前我會為你注射麻藥。
R：我知道，在注射過麻藥後你就什麼也感覺不到了。
L：對，這就是對一般牙疼的療法。但是通常的牙科檢查
並不包括這些。如果只是發現一些蛀孔，便只需用填料進行修補就行了。對孩子們來説，一經發現有蛀牙的前期症狀，我就會進行封補，從而防止其繼續惡化。
R：我記得您幫我孩子做過，您還把這個給我看。牙齒好像給蓋上了一層東西，當孩子們吃糖的時候，它們就會侵蝕牙齒。
L：這樣的封補一點也不疼。
R：對，我知道，我來這兒時從來沒感覺到疼。僅僅是加了一些牙料，並不是很疼我希望今後牙齒不要出問題。
L：所以，你應該定期去牙醫那兒檢查。
R：沒錯，每半年一次。對口腔清洗非常舒服，之後口感非常清新。
L：對，一般的定期檢查包括口腔清洗以及全方面的護理
所以對諸如蛀牙（蛀孔）等。
R：因此對最常見的牙病你們就會進行針對性的修補，而對於孩子們，你們就會進行預防和保護。另外，在中國
有沒有什麼特殊的牙病？因為據我所知中國人喜愛嗑瓜子
這樣會導致什麼問題嗎？
L：是的，長時間地嗑瓜子，牙齒的內側會形成小的縫隙。這些非常難以修復。
R：但是你們可以做到。
L：是的，如果這樣的縫隙慢慢變大，而且最後徹底裂開了，我們還可以進行覆蓋療法。
R：這也不會疼吧。
L：不會，一點都不疼。
R：只要你用上一些止疼藥。對，現在我坐在椅子上，周圍都是您常用的工具。對，有一盞特殊的燈，這邊還有一個水槽。我覺得什麼都不能亂碰。中國的診所裏也有類似的器械嗎？
L：是的，在北京和中國的許多地方。那兒的診所同樣擁有這些器械。
R：使用的方法也類似，是嗎？
L：沒錯。
R：有沒有相應的培訓診所供中國的牙醫來學習新的技術呢？
L：有啊，我很歡迎牙科大夫來我這兒參觀。事實上我們每天都有許多來訪者。
R：真的嗎？每天都有牙醫來您這兒？是的，這樣很好。在中國技術每天都在進步。有沒有什麼東西是中國沒有的？哦，這個大概中國以前沒有。
L：是的。
R：您曾和您的助理醫師為我的女兒做過牙齒的矯正。
L：對，我們幫孩子們矯正牙形。但是這個過程一般會很長，大概兩年左右吧。
R：哦，要兩年。但這樣很好。當你把矯牙器去掉後，牙齒就變得整齊了，而且永遠不會再變形。不過在兩年中會有一點兒疼。
L：是的，其實並不"疼"，只是有點"不舒服"而已。
R：哦，不舒服。你必須保持牙齒的清潔，是的。但是當牙齒變得整整齊齊之後，你的感覺會非常棒。如果牙齒上有喝茶或喝咖啡後留下的牙垢該怎麼辦呢？我非常喜歡喝咖啡和茶。
L：你就需要來我們這兒，我們會幫你進行清洗打磨。現在最新的方法是對牙齒進行漂白。我們現在使用化學藥劑

L：有啊，而且這一點也不疼。
