China holds gala to honor WWII veterans

A grand gala was held Friday afternoon in Beijing, in honor of World War Two veterans.

Decades ago they spilled their blood in their fight against the Japanese invaders. Now the veterans are here in the nation's capital to enjoy the honor they deserve.

They received flowers and were greeted by top leaders, including President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao and top political advisor Jia Qinglin.

The gala featured songs and performances that relived the history of the catastrophe caused by the Japanese aggression, and the Chinese people's courageous struggle against the invaders.

The gala also honors overseas troops who came from afar to join the Chinese people in their fight against the fascist invasion.

It was an expressing gratitude for the support of all peace-loving countries and peoples in the world. Their contributions will never be forgotten.

Under the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, nearly 210 people from countries including the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Russia and Ukraine, attended the event.
