China condemns Japan´s White Paper

China has dismissed a Japanese claim that the modernization of its military represents a threat. During a regular news briefing on Tuesday, a Foreign Ministry spokesman called the allegation totally groundless and irresponsible. The claim stems from a White Paper by Japan's cabinet, which says Tokyo should intensify precautions against the Chinese military's development.

The spokesman said it was not beneficial to establishing confidence between two countries and would only mislead the public. He says China hopes the Japanese government can put more efforts into strengthening mutual understanding by taking a long-term view to development.
