Chinese President Hu Jintao has held talks with the visiting leaders of two of Japan's ruling parties. He told them the two countries should take specific measures to cope with any difficulties in relations.
Meeting in the Great Hall of the People on Sunday, Hu Jintao told his guests that enhancing communication between the two countries' political parties would be helpful for the currently strained Sino-Japanese relationship. The two party leaders are Tsutomu Takebe, Secretary-General of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, and the head of its coalition ally the New Komeito Party, Tetsuzo Fuyushiba.
President Hu said the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government pay close attention to Sino-Japanese relations and want a friendly atmosphere for the development of the two countries. He said this goal can be achieved if both sides abide by the principles set down in the three friendship treaties that China and Japan have signed.
The Japanese party leaders praised as constructive Hu Jintao's five-point proposal on Sino-Japanese relations set forward earlier this year. Tsutomu Takebe noted that the Japanese invasion of China was an undeniable historical fact and Japan should take actions to promote relations with its neighbor. He said a healthy Sino-Japanese relationship would help maintain peace and stability for Asia and the world as a whole.
