In New York, the UN General Assembly has held a special session to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, and honor the soldiers and victims of the war. UN Deputy Secretary-General Louise Frechette noted the world was looking back to honor fallen heroes and loved ones. But she said it was equally important to look ahead, and reaffirm commitment to the goal of building a world fit for humankind. UN leaders, as well as representatives from 190 UN member states, attended the meeting.
